NAME: Pat McDonald

STEPHEN EMBREY/EMRY/EMMORY

This name gets spelled many different ways. Later lines settled on EMORY. I am looking for any information about the STEPHEN EMBREY/EMRY/EMMORY who is mentioned in Laurens Co. SC Wills. He must have died about 1797 SC. His will mentions a child, MARGARET, who I suspect is my ancestor who married JOHN MCDONALD b 1792. STEPHEN is on 1790 census of Laurens. Steve is probably RWS, but cannot locate his records.

John and Margaret moved to TN where most of their children were born in early ca 1815-1830, then just across the state line to Lauderdale, AL. Family lore is that Margaret had two brothers in the area.

There was a Quaker EMBREE family in the Laurens area, but I cannot make any connection to STEPHEN. Some of those names (late 1700s) were JOHN & Mary, and his brother, MOSES. WILLIAM EMBRY

There were some EMBRY folks in early Franklin Co. TN too, but once again, no tie-in, or clues. They seem to be descendants of RWS, JOSEPH EMBRY b 1753.

Anybody working on South Carolina, TN, AL guys?

Also looking for Aymar Embury (Emory), noted architect of the Museum of Natural History in New York City. Perhaps around 1900.

Am looking for any info on Willis EMBRY and his parents. He married Eliza Jane DEMHAM 28 Aug 1798 Madison Co. KY. Their children are: Jesse W., Wiley S., Merrill W., Theresa, Elizabeth, Parker Denham, Mary (Polly), Eliza Jane and my line Thomas Turner EMBRY Born 1819 Adair Co. KY, married Mary Ann White 11 Feb 1840 Russell Co. KY. This line went to Canden Co., MO where the last name became EMRY.

Jesse Embry, born 15 Jan 1800, was born in TENNESSEE, not Georgia!!!! That would explain why none of the GA Embry's matched up. I found a rather large concentration of Embry's in Franklin County, TN, apparently in the Anderson, TN area, on the 1820/30/40 census'.... Head of household names: Murry (b. 1790-1800); Reuben (b. 1770-1780); Boley (b. 1770-1780); Thomas (b. 1780-1790); Jesse (b. 1750-1760); Merril (b. 1780-1790). Anyone recognize this family? They were all in the same area of Franklin County, TN (around Anderson) on the 1820/1830/1840) census'. My Jesse (b. 1800) was in MS by 1838, still in TN in 1835. Jesse married Elizabeth K. ? (b. 24 Nov 1809 in TN) probably around 1830. Their children: Henrietta (1830-1846, b. in TN), Willis (ca 1832 in TN), Elizabeth (ca 1835 in TN), Sarah Ann (1838 in Ripley, Tippah, MS), David (ca 1841 in MS), Sabella (1844 in MS). There are also and Abel Embry (b. ca 1805 in GA), and Allen Embry (b. ca 1804 in GA) living near Jesse in Tippah County, MS in 1850. Allen's oldest children show birthplaces in TN, even though he shows GA. They are of an appropriate age to be brothers. Does any of this ring a bell with anyone? There is a 79 year old woman living with Abel in 1850, named Nancy Embry, who is probably his mother, but not sure how and if they connect with Jesse. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

In our VA Emry line, we have Robert Emry b. 1706, d. 1789, his son Charles, Robert Emry b. 1773, d. bef. 1857, all in Fauquier Co., VA.  The next generation changes the spelling to Embry.  Does anyone have Robert, Thomas, William or Charles Emry in their line?  Thank you.

I have been looking for my g-grandfather Milen Embry and wife Mary McElroy for yrs. with no results. On my g-father's (George W. Embry,bn/ca 1857/died 1923) marriage in New Orleans in 1884 to Blanche Bell he lists his father Milen and mother Mary, and that he is from Brooklyn Post Office, Jackson Parish, La. There was at that time in Jackson Parish, two Embry families, Reuben and Jesse, who were originally from Ala. They had a sister "Mrs. Perry" who moved to Texas. Reuben and Jesse are found in the 1850-60 census in La. Was Milen Embry connected to these families? Please, anyone out there ever come across the name Milen (Milan) Embry? Did George W. Embry have any siblings? Any help much appreciated!!
